The two online courses on emergency market analysis that were released by the International Rescue Committee and Cash Learning Partnership in mid-2016 are now available in French and Arabic. These two self-paced, online courses – Introduction to Market Analysis and A Practical Guide to Market Analysis – will be especially useful for humanitarian staff who have not yet had the chance to participate in a face-to-face markets training or assessment course. Please help spread the word to your French and Arabic speaking colleagues.
Course 1: Introduction to Market Analysis: This 30-minute course provides a basic introduction to the analysis of markets in emergency contexts, with input from some of the world’s leading thinkers on the topic. Learn about the potential for market analysis across all sectors to transform the way humanitarian programs are designed as well as the harm that can be caused by failing to consider markets when designing a programme.
Course 2: A practical guide to market analysis: This 3.5 hour, highly interactive course is designed to provide future humanitarian market assessment team members with a solid understanding of the theory and steps of market assessments so that you can join assessment teams, prepared with a basic understanding of what you will be doing and why. During the course, you will be guided through the common steps within market assessments, using a fictional emergency scenario as a basis. This course is relevant to most approaches to emergency market assessment, including EMMA, RAM, MAG, the 48-Hour Tool, the WFP VAM and PCMA.
Access the courses on either the Cash Learning Hub or the Disaster Ready platform, according to your preference. [Create a free account on either platform, and then search for the course titles to begin.]
